Kayla Christenson is a visual journalist based in Europe and Asia. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, USA, she found her passion for photography after enlisting in the U.S. Air Force as a photojournalist. Always having an eye for cinematography as an “almost” film major, she found taking photos to be a natural skill. In the Air Force she earned Photojournalist of the Year, Portrait of the Year and Multimedia Product of the Year.
After the Air Force, Kayla continued her education at Arizona State University earning her Masters of Mass Communications, graduating in August 2025. While in school, Kayla interned as a marketing specialist, earning her a contract position with Steele Marketing where she works with a small team part-time.
For Kayla, photography is her passion but being a jack-of-all-trades is a need in a newsroom. Videography, print, graphic design, social media management, marketing, press releases are all in her wheelhouse.
Capturing a moment, a personality, the past, the future and present. Photography is more than a photo, it is telling a story. Whether that includes multiple photos or a single photo, it can influence a person’s emotions and thoughts. There is power in a moment.
“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
